The Plymouth car was introduced in the United States in 1927 as a companion to the Ford Model T. The company had been founded in 1916 by Henry Ford, who wanted to build a better automobile than the Model T, a car that had been introduced the year before. Plymouth had been Ford's official licensee, but Ford and his brother Edsel (who was to become a vice-president of Plymouth) had become dissatisfied with the Plymouths they had seen. Plymouth cars had been very similar to the Model T, but had used a slightly more powerful engine. The company had been run by Henry's son Edsel, but he died.
